Personal Growth

We are committed to supporting the development of our employees to ensure they perform their roles efficiently and effectively. It is the commitment, enthusiasm and skills of our people that determine our success.

We are continuously improving and developing the learning environment to deliver a comprehensive and innovative range of learning solutions.

Learning and Development activities include:

  • Support in achieving our strategic goals and priorities
  • Support employees' skills development
  • Support development of employees to enable them to adapt to change and enhance their future career opportunities
  • Our approach to development works from an important principle that individuals take responsibility for their own personal and professional development. Managers are expected to work with team members to identify learning priorities and opportunities and to facilitate appropriate development solutions.

Examples of development opportunities available to staff are:

  • E-learning
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Management development
  • In-house training courses, such as influencing skills and performance management.

Our Performance and Development Plan (PDP) is the ongoing process which recognises individual contributions towards the WMCA's success. Regular PDP discussion meetings with line managers are our people's opportunity to:

  • Review progress towards their Personal Objectives.
  • Explore opportunities to further develop Competence.
  • Agree how they have demonstrated the Values.
  • We continue to develop and improve our approach to formal, open and transparent talent management, succession planning and retention to ensure we are attracting, developing, managing and evaluating all our talent.

We are also committed to recruit talented people most likely to be aligned with Our Vision and Values. We recognise quality starts with the best materials, so we select based on attitude, competencies, skills and behaviours required for each job. We use a range of methods to select, such as assessment centres and behavioural based interviews.
