Mental health stars to step back into the spotlight

Published: Thursday 22 Nov 2018

Nominations opened today for the second Thrive Mental Health Commission Awards, taking place in January.

Following the success of last year's inaugural awards, West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is once again inviting people to nominate people and organisations who have helped them.

The deadline for nominations is 1000 on Tuesday 8 January 2019.

Last year's mental health stars celebrate along with event host Adrian Goldberg, Norman Lamb MP and West Midlands Mayor Andy Street.

West Midlands Mayor Andy Street said:  I am delighted to announce the second Thrive West Midlands Mental Health Commission Awards, following their introduction last year.

I was personally privileged to take part in the inaugural event and the stories from the evening made a huge and lasting impression on everyone there.

The awards provide a spotlight for these unsung heroes to step into - some richly deserved recognition for their own efforts, and also a way to highlight the many issues still surrounding mental ill health and wellbeing

Nominations are invited from across the WMCA region - anyone can suggest an individual or organisation they feel has had a positive impact on their own or someone else's mental wellbeing.

It could be a friend, family, work colleague, carer or health professional, an individual or someone representing a group or company - and could be in either a personal or professional context.

People are urged to find out more and nominate someone for a Mental Health Star award online at the WMCA website.

The awards will be an opportunity to learn more about work in the region, including progress against the Thrive West Midlands Action Plan.

Shortlisted nominees will be invited to an awards ceremony on Thursday 31 January 2018 at The Hawthorns, West Bromwich Albion Football Club.
