High Speed Two Limited (HS2 Ltd) is the company developing and promoting the HS2 network. It is funded by grant aid from the government. HS2 Ltd is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Transport.
By helping to bridge the north-south divide and linking the country's major cities HS2 will build a country that works together.
The new railway will free up space on existing congested rail lines. This will relieve overcrowding and improve reliability for millions of people using Britain’s railways.
It will help deliver a more productive economy, better able to compete on the global stage. By making it faster and easier to travel for work and leisure, HS2 will increase trade, boost tourism and regenerate towns and cities. The West Midlands and other local authorities have already put in place development plans to capitalise on HS2 maximising economic growth and jobs.
Communities where HS2 will pass through can find out more about what is going on at the dedicated websites on the left of this page.
