5G Testbed in Birmingham
The West Midlands has been chosen as the UK’s home of 5G testing.
The multimillion-pound trial of new high-speed connectivity will pave the way for the future rollout of 5G across the nation, making our region the first in the UK to test 5G applications and services at scale.
This doesn’t just mean faster internet – superfast connectivity is essential for a whole range of next generation technologies, such as autonomous vehicles and smart city infrastructure. The technology has the potential to transform public services and boost productivity across our regional economy.
Birmingham will serve as the specialist hub for trialling 5G medical technologies, Coventry will trial future mobility (including autonomous vehicles) and the Black Country will serve as our construction technology hub.
