Hate Crime Campaign

Stophate

An anti-hate crime campaign was produced in early 2019 to tackle hate crime across the West Midlands.

The campaign is targeted at public transport users who are (or are at risk of being) victims of hate crime.

In Early 2019, the Home Office released figures showing that in the last 12 months, the number of hate incidents in the West Midlands had increased by 25%.  This represented a 76% increase over the past 5 years. As a result, the Mayor of the West Midlands and The Police and Crime Commissioner decided to launch a joint campaign to tackle the problem.

Over 500 posters and other promotional materials were placed on buses and at bus stations across the West Midlands. National Express, a member of the West Midlands Bus Alliance, displayed the materials on routes spread across the region and a social media campaign also ran alongside the physical promotion to increase awareness using the following hashtag: #StopHateWM
