Ed Cox becomes new WMCA Chief Executive (Interim) as region faces ‘extraordinary opportunity’

Ed Cox, the new Chief Executive (Interim) of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has described his appointment as a “real honour” at a time when the region stands on the cusp of “extraordinary opportunity.”

In taking up his new post, the native West Midlander said his focus will be on delivery, built on optimistic vision and clear strategy.

Ed has been with the WMCA for five years and has been serving as the Deputy Chief Executive, leading on strategy, economy and net zero.

He takes over from Laura Shoaf, who will continue her role as chair of Shadow Great British Railways.

Ed said: "My passion for this region has never diminished even though I have lived in different cities around the world. When I joined the WMCA five years ago, it was a sort of homecoming.

“It’s a real honour to be invited by the mayor and local authority leaders to serve as Chief Executive (Interim) at such a pivotal time.

"We in the West Midlands stand on the cusp of extraordinary opportunity and my focus will be on clarity, delivery and collaboration as we continue driving positive change across the region.”
