Global AI leader confirms commitment to the West Midlands with major new investment in jobs and infrastructure

Atos, a leading provider of AI-powered digital transformation, has announced a new technology centre in Solihull as part of a £10 million investment that will boost the region’s role at the heart of the UK’s AI-led digital future.

Plans for the new Sovereign Orchestration Hub at Birmingham Business Park were unveiled ahead of the government's first Regional Investment Summit being held in Birmingham on Tuesday 21st October.

Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “This investment by Atos shows that global tech leaders see the West Midlands as being at the heart of the UK’s AI revolution.

“I’ve already set out plans to give every adult free training in AI and to build the technical skills needed for the jobs of the future. Those plans are being backed by major investments like this one, which are bringing high quality jobs and cutting-edge infrastructure.

"This is about good jobs today and even more world-class opportunities tomorrow. As we host the government’s first ever Regional Investment Summit, our reputation as a global business hub has never been stronger.”

The Birmingham hub will address the growing demand for the UK to have complete autonomy and oversight over its end-to-end technology estate, delivering advanced monitoring and management services from a purpose-built, sustainable facility.

Atos' investment includes a Digital Agentic Centre in Nottingham which will focus on AI and automation technologies designed to improve efficiency and resilience.

Atos’ new centres will act as the national hub for a wider network of sovereign digital facilities across the UK, supporting key sectors including defence, infrastructure and public services.

Together, the sites represent a major milestone in Atos’ commitment to strengthening the UK’s technological resilience and investing in regional growth.

The centres will help organisations across both the public and private sectors manage their digital operations securely within the UK — supporting national ambitions for digital sovereignty and data security.

Alongside this investment, Atos is expanding its Midlands graduate and apprenticeship programmes, with initial plans to create 50 new jobs in 2026.

The business is offering AI-proofed career pathways designed to ensure people grow with technology rather than compete against it.

New recruits will gain hands-on experience across AI, cybersecurity, cloud and data analytics, helping to develop a diverse, future-ready digital workforce for the UK.
