Independent chair sought for top West Midlands Combined Authority committee

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is seeking an independent chair for one of its key committees.

The Audit & Standards Committee oversees finances, processes and risks for the WMCA and holds its members to account.

The committee is made up of members of the constituent and non-constituent councils of the WMCA along with the independent member in its chair, who will be appointed for a period of four years.

Responsibilities will include fostering good working relationships and communication among all committee members, between the committee and the WMCA.

Meetings take place four times a year at the WMCA offices in Birmingham and the role is voluntary, although travel expenses are paid.

Candidates must be:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Not currently a member or employee of the West Midlands Combined Authority.
  • Not currently be an independent chair of any other West Midlands public sector body.
  • Not actively engaged in local party political activity
  • Cannot be the subject of a bankruptcy restriction order or interim order
  • Not convicted within the last five years of any offence resulting in a sentence of three months imprisonment or more (whether suspended or not)
  • Not convicted of any fraudulent or corrupt electoral practice for which there is a period of disqualification
