WMCA becomes first-ever community partner for Naidex disability show
Published: Wednesday 04 Mar 2026
The WMCA has become the first-ever community partner for Naidex - the UK’s leading event for disability, accessibility, and independent living.
The strategic partnership marks a significant milestone for the event, which returns to the NEC Birmingham on 25–26 March.
The agreement reflects a shared commitment to championing disabled people’s voices and removing societal barriers.
The partnership will see the introduction of a brand-new show feature: the Disabled People’s Conversation Corner - an open and welcoming space for honest conversations led by disabled voices.
The sessions are designed to encourage discussion, shared experience, and community connection-creating a dedicated space for stories that matter and conversations that challenge perspectives.
The initiative builds upon the WMCA’s recently released report, ‘Making the West Midlands an Exemplary Region for Disabled People’, and aims to ensure that disabled people, carers, and professionals have a direct platform to share their ideas on what an inclusive future should look like.
Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “Making sure disabled people can secure a good job, an accessible and affordable home, and get around without restriction on our public transport are key priorities for me. No one should be held back from achieving their full potential, least of all because of a disability, which is why I will continue to work towards our ambition of becoming an Exemplary Region for Disabled People.”
“I’m proud of how diverse our region is, but we also need to be a truly inclusive one. By working with Naidex and others we can continue breaking down barriers and make that goal a reality.”
Josh Waddell, commercial director of Naidex, added: "We are thrilled to welcome the West Midlands Combined Authority as our first-ever community partner. Naidex has always been more than just an exhibition; it is a platform for change. By introducing the Disabled People’s Conversation Corner in partnership with WMCA, we are ensuring that lived experience remains at the heart of the event, providing a vital space where everyone’s ideas and voices can truly be heard."
Throughout the two-day event, visitors to the Conversation Corner will be encouraged to share their insights and solutions.
The WMCA will use these stories and ideas to directly influence future work on making the region the best place to live, work, and visit as a disabled person.
And, in the spirit of national collaboration, these learnings will be shared with colleagues across the country to ensure the impact of these conversations reaches far beyond the West Midlands.
Naidex 2026 will also feature a packed conference programme with more than 200 suppliers and interactive features including the Mobility Test Track and the Adaptive Climbing Wall.
