Framework in depth

The Gatsby Framework is a set of eight benchmarks that have been identified as the key elements of a good careers programme. These benchmarks were developed by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, a UK-based charity that is committed to improving education and skills for young people. The benchmarks have been endorsed by the Department for Education and are widely recognized as the gold standard for careers guidance.

The eight benchmarks are:

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning from career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experiences of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance

By implementing these benchmarks, we ensure that young people have access to high-quality careers education and guidance. We work with secondary schools and colleges across the West Midlands to develop a community of practice and provide support for the achievement and delivery of the benchmarks.

Our team of experts collaborate with business partners, the public, education, and voluntary sectors to ensure that we are delivering the best possible outcomes for young people. We provide a range of resources and support, including careers events, work experience opportunities, and employer engagement programmes, to ensure that young people are well-equipped to make informed decisions about their future.

At the West Midlands Careers Hub, we are committed to delivering the Gatsby benchmarks and ensuring that all young people in the region have access to high-quality careers guidance.
