Culture and Creative Economy

These are exciting times for culture in the West Midlands with major events giving the region a golden opportunity to showcase a resurgent, diverse and confident West Midlands to the world.


Cultural activities are important to West Midlands people:

  • More than three-quarters of adults in the region engage with the arts each year – most at least three times a year. This includes live music, drama and visual arts.
  • Almost half (47%) of WM adults visited a museum in the last year and a third used a local library.


Creative and cultural organisations are a key part of the West Midlands economy:

  • Over £4 billions “gross value added” from the creative economy in the WMCA area
  • Around 50,000 jobs in creative industries in the region
