Inclusive and Innovative Recruitment and Career Champion
Funded by the Commonwealth Games Legacy Fund and aligned with WMCA’s goals for economic growth and social mobility, ICAN has opened doors for local residents, especially those from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds. From paid work placements to tailored skills development and direct recruitment support, the programme has empowered individuals to thrive in NHS and Council roles.
Key Achievements:
- Over 30 local residents supported into paid work placements
- 43% from the most deprived areas, 30% from ethnic minority backgrounds, and 43% declared a disability
- £6 million estimated economic value generated
- Streamlined recruitment processes and inclusive practices embedded across both organisations
- Strong collaboration with health, education, and community partners
Through bold experimentation, inclusive design, and a deep commitment to community, ICAN has not only changed lives – it’s reshaped how recruitment can work for everyone. As one participant shared:
“You have honestly changed my life.”
Let’s celebrate this outstanding achievement and the vital role that employers play in building a fairer, more inclusive workforce for the West Midlands.
