Construction skills for employers
Build Skills, grow your workforce and deliver growth
The West Midlands is entering a transformational period of construction and regeneration.
To meet demand, the Construction Skills Action Plan puts employers at the centre of a joined‑up skills system - helping you recruit talent, shape training and develop the skills your business needs to grow.
- Recruit job‑ready talent: Work with our WMCA‑funded programmes like Construction Gateway to access candidates who are trained and made ready to meet your site and role requirements. Employers help shape training which supports candidates access industry‑standard certification and guaranteed interviews.
- Shape the skills pipeline: Partner with local colleges and the West Midlands Construction Technical Excellence College (CTEC) to influence curriculum, support placements and align training with real project demand - from core trades to future skills in retrofit, digital and low‑carbon applications.
- Make apprenticeships work for your business: The UK Government’s Growth and Skills Levy aims to give employers more flexibility to invest in apprenticeships, modular training and upskilling - particularly supporting SMEs to build and retain talent.
- Upskill and futureproof your existing workforce: Access support to develop future skills in modern methods of construction, energy efficiency, retrofit and digital construction - helping your business stay competitive and future‑ready.
- Deliver wellbeing, social value and retention: Engage in inclusive recruitment and wellbeing initiatives that improve workforce resilience, retention and productivity while supporting local communities.
