Constructions skills for partners
A systems‑led approach, shaped by partners
The West Midlands Construction Skills Action Plan is built on a simple principle - no single organisation can deliver the workforce that the region needs on its own. Success depends on strong partnership working and a co‑ordinated, systems‑led approach that aligns skills, jobs and investment.
In our roles as a regional leader, the WMCA brings together colleges, training providers, business, industry organisation and national partners to align skills provision so it can meet real demand.
By working as a system - rather than in silos - partners can work strategically at regional-level and have confidence to scale up what works in a bid to deliver the right skills in the right place.
How partners help shape opportunities
- FE colleges and training providers work with WMCA to co‑design and deliver training in priority areas. This is supported by the region’s Construction Technical Excellence College (CTEC), based at Dudley College, using its pan-region hub-and spoke model.
- Industry organisations and employer networks provide real‑time insight into workforce needs, convene businesses, and help ensure training leads directly to jobs and progression for local people.
- National policymakers, organisations and programmes look to the West Midlands as a trailblazer that provides a scalable model for skills delivery in this vital sector.
