Jobs for everyone

Why

  • The West Midlands has an employment rate of 69% - 7% below the national average.
  • Over 400,000 working-age residents are currently inactive due to barriers including health, care, skills and housing.
  • Youth unemployment in parts of the region remains above 20%.

West Midlands Works is a place-based approach to tackle these challenges and make work accessible to everyone.

Approach

West Midlands Works focuses on four priority pathways:

  1. Transforming operational delivery
  2. Eradicating health and wider barriers to work
  3. Keeping the West Midlands working
  4. Delivering public service innovation for future generations

Impact

West Midlands Works is about turning strategy into action.

  • Supporting residents to overcome health, skills, and care barriers.
  • Connecting employers to talent in a fair and inclusive way.
