Health Lead
Amber Marquand
Health & Environment Higher Officer, West Midlands Area Team, Natural England
I work closely with community groups, health partners and local authorities – mainly in Birmingham and Walsall – to expand the offer of meaningful nature-based activities that support health and wellbeing.
This includes everything from community gardening and conservation volunteering to guided nature walks, nature-based social groups and creative outdoor projects. My role involves finding ways to help more people experience the mental and physical health benefits of connecting with nature, especially in areas where access is limited.
I joined the Advisory Group because building up grassroots’ involvement in nature-based work is not only good for individual wellbeing, but also essential for building climate awareness and care.
There’s a real need to bring health, climate and community agendas together in the West Midlands and I’m looking forward to working with WMCA and other members to explore inclusive, practical approaches that support both people and the planet.
Advisory Group Role - Health Lead
As Health Lead, Amber will make the links between environment focused community activities and the associated health benefits. This could be in benefits to mental health, physical health and wellbeing as well as green prescribing.
