Ashley Community & Housing Ltd
The Community Environment Network aims to connect community groups working on environment action, boost their efforts, and also inspire and support new groups.
Ashley Community & Housing Ltd (ACH) is dedicated to building a better future for refugees and migrants in the UK.
Over in Solihull, ACH are transforming a garden at a shared living space for Ukrainian refugees. The garden has become a shared space for supporting mental health and wellbeing for individuals who have undergone trauma and displacement.
Through the Nature Call to Action Campaign, they are developing the garden with the residents by:
• Using existing planters to grow a wider range of herbs and vegetables, including culturally familiar crops
• Planting bee-friendly flowers and native plants to support pollinators
• Repairing and restoring the existing water feature to support birds and insects
• Creating a small composting area using fallen leaves and residents’ vegetable waste, improving soil health
• Refreshing and painting wooden planters using wood protector and colourful finishes
• Delivering education sessions on plant identification, composting and local wildlife
