The Community Environment Network aims to connect community groups working on environment action, boost their efforts, and also inspire and support new groups.
Birmingham Settlement helps people lead happy and healthy lives and have a beautiful base next to Edgbaston Reservoir in Birmingham.
As part of the Nature Call to Action Campaign, Birmingham Settlement held a series of environmental and nature focused activities for anyone to join.
A series of Eco Weekends were held across March, during which local residents and families were invited to attend free outdoor events. These sessions included hands-on activities such as composting, planting bulbs for pollinators, making seed bombs and bird feeders, and exploring wildlife through guided walks and monitoring equipment. The events engaged participants with nature, while making their green space more accessible to the community.
Additional programmes included Forest School taster sessions for young children and their carers, which encouraged early engagement with nature through play-based learning. A World Climate Day event offered a full schedule of activities focused on climate action, including yoga in nature, community litter-picking, and inclusive sessions such as seed bomb making for adults with learning disabilities and additional needs.
There were also ongoing opportunities for involvement through regular volunteer days at the site. These sessions enabled participants to help maintain and enhance the green space through activities such as planting, growing, ground maintenance, weeding, and trimming.
