Warley Woods Community Trust
The Community Environment Network aims to connect community groups working on environment action, boost their efforts, and also inspire and support new groups.
Warley Woods is a 100 acres of grade 2 listed, historic greenspace right in the heart of Sandwell.
During March they are seeking volunteers to help them plan a hazel coppice and planting of native bluebells and other plants to add nature to an underused area of the Woods.
Once established the coppice would provide Warley Conservation Volunteers with a sustainable source of materials for a range of vital conservation activities, ensuring lasting benefits from the project specifically and from other future projects.

Douglas Barber, Conservation and Wildlife Engagement Manager at Warley Woods has said the following about the project: "Our Roots and Shoots project will bring members of our community together, while helping us move closer to establishing a thriving, traditionally managed woodland abundant with wildlife. Thanks to this funding, we have been able to introduce hazel trees - a species currently scarce in our woodland - along with a diverse mix of native woodland plants that are essential for supporting early pollinators, something our woods has been depleted off for far too long.
As our hazel coppice matures, it will be harvested on a sustainable cycle, providing natural materials for conservation work such as hedgelaying - a true win-win for nature and the local environment."
