A circular economy can benefit the environment, society and the economy.

If you're interested in reducing waste, repairing and repurposing but unsure where to start, read our guide, created by Cirklo Consult to help get you started.

Repairing

Repairing items which otherwise would be destined to landfill, is a great way of reducing waste and cost by also providing activities within your community for people to learn new skills, such as sewing or replacing phone batteries.

Clothing Repairs

Make Good Arts have been delivering Repair and Share workshops in Sandwell since 2022.

They have created an online flipbook to help other organisations set up and deliver similar workshops.

Read the flipbook here.

Electrical Repairs

ReCognition Circular repurpose computers and mobile devices to maintain their value. They host skills workshops, repair cafes and you can lease a refurbished device from them, rather than buying new.

The Active Wellbeing Society have Share Shacks in Birmingham which host Repair & Skills Share workshops to hep local people fix their own broken items such as electrical equipment and clothing.

To find a Repair Cafe near to you, visit the Community Repair Network as there are many across the region.

Reusing

On Mondays, The Active Wellbeing Society open their Share Shacks in Georges Park and on City Road in Birmingham for anyone within the community to loan items for free, from gardening equipment to food processors.

Use their activity finder to see when the Share Shacks are open.

Carries of Hope  in Coventry host a women's sewing circle to transform scrap fabric into beautiful handmade items, which they sell to generate funding for their work. Their furniture project repurposes good quality furniture to support refugees when moving into a new home.

Remaking

All Saints Action Network are based in Wolverhampton collect wood, which would have ended up in a skip, to create furniture and other items whilst providing training and learning opportunities to improve volunteers wellbeing and job prospects.
