Better Streets Community Fund

A pedestrianised, accessible area - used as an exemplary case of good place-making

The WMCA is investing £2 million in local communities across the West Midlands.

The aim of this fund is to allow local communities to develop their local area by making improvements to the things that matter most to them, like the high street.

We invited local councils across the region to make applications to the fund. 144 ideas were submitted, and 31 projects have so far been allocated funding. Projects to date have included new cycling infrastructure, pavements, flower beds and public benches.

The £2 million comes from the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund, from which the West Midlands has received two rounds of funding so far. Projects are currently underway and residents can expect to see improvements to their local area soon.
