High Streets

Supporting vibrant town and city centres across the West Midlands

The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is committed to supporting thriving high streets and town centres across the region.

High streets play an important role in local communities: supporting businesses, jobs, culture, markets, events and everyday life. They are places where people work, meet, shop, socialise and spend time.

Working alongside local authorities, businesses and partners, the WMCA is exploring ways to support town and city centres through regeneration, place-making and activity that helps create welcoming and vibrant local places.

Supporting local places

This work includes:

  • supporting local businesses and markets
  • improving public spaces and town centre environments
  • encouraging footfall and local activity
  • bringing underused spaces back into use
  • supporting community-focused activity and events
  • helping town and city centres adapt and grow
  • supporting opportunities for people to share ideas and learn from successful high street activity across the region

Supporting high streets forms part of the Mayor’s wider ambition to create growth and opportunity across the West Midlands, helping build places people are proud to live, work and spend time in.

Further information and updates will be added to this page as activity develops.
