Wolverhampton Green Innovation Corridor

Wolverhampton’s Green Innovation Corridor (GIC) enhances the city’s reputation as a world-leading research cluster in green technologies.

Spanning from the city centre, through the University of Wolverhampton Springfield Campus and Science Park and connecting to the world-leading i54 Business Park at the northern end of the corridor, the Green Innovation Corridor represents a paradigm shift towards sustainable manufacturing, propelled by cutting-edge technologies, a strong supply chain and a highly skilled, diverse talent pool.

Overview of GIC:

  • Spanning Wolverhampton City Centre, to the University of Wolverhampton and the world-leading i54 Business Park.
  • The GIC aspires to be a world-leading research-led cluster in green technologies.
  • The Six Green Mile (IZ) is part of wider GIC 3.74ha with up to 24,000sqm of commercial floor space development opportunity.
  • The partners are City of Wolverhampton Council and University of Wolverhampton.

In the first five years of the West Midlands Investment Zones, the capital funding of £7m for GIC, funded by WMCA will develop the site in the following way:

  • GIC’s Masterplan approach is based around two key anchor sites – Springfield Campus and University of Wolverhampton Science Park, referred to as Six Mile Green. The initial phase is centred around expanding the current provisions and bringing forward underutilised land for development.
