Warm Homes Grants: cover 70% of costs to make your rented properties warmer

Do you rent out a property in the West Midlands? If so, you could be eligible for a Warm Home Grant.

If you’re eligible, a free energy efficiency assessment of your property will be offered. Recommendations could include the installation of:

Loft or external wall insulation

Cavity wall insulation

High energy storage heaters

Hot water cylinder insulation and thermostat

Solar Panels

Ventilation measures

How much would I pay?

This will depend on the current energy efficiency rating of your property, and how much work would be required for it to reach an EPC C rating (considered ‘good’).

Your local authority’s appointed contractor will provide you with a fully costed estimate of proposed works. Work will only go ahead with your consent.

70% of the cost would be covered by the Government-funded Grant, with the remaining 30% payable by the landlord.

Once the work’s completed, everyone benefits! The property is warmer to live in, damp and mould gets treated, your tenants’ energy bills go down, the property’s carbon footprint decreases and its value increases.

Am I eligible?

Your properties must be located in Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall or Wolverhampton.

Landlords with any number of properties can apply. 70% of costs for the work will be covered for up to 4 properties. For the 5^th and any subsequent properties, the grant will cover 50% of the work.

Only properties which have an Energy Performance Certificate of D or less are eligible; your local authority can check this when you apply

Income or benefit checks on your tenants may be necessary, depending on the postcode area of your properties.
